So we have hit the 15 week mark, past the first trimester which is awesome!! But now that we know that bub is content inside my belly there are so many questions and 'what if's ' running around my mind.
Firstly, what it we have another premature baby? There was no medical reason why Richie was born early, he just wanted to be in the big, wide world. When I was pregnant with Richie, if someone had said to me that he was going to be born premature I wouldn't have known what to expect in having and caring for a premmie baby. This time around if we have another premmie baby, I know what to expect and its slightly scary. Our GP has said that there is no reason why this bub should be prem but what if he/she comes early for no reason just like Richie? Seeing as we have already experienced what having a premature baby entails, its one of those life experiences that I don't want to go through again. Don't get me wrong, the staff at KEMH were fantastic and the quality of care and support was second to none, but the thought of the stress involved with the hospital trips, the relentless expressing of milk at all hours, the extreme range of emotions and not having our baby home with us soon after birth are some of the experiences I would prefer not to occur again.
I also think of this pregnancy as a chance to experience a normal, full term pregnancy. When Richie was born premature, we didn't have the opportunity to have him in our hospital room to show off to family and friends, we had to wait 4 weeks before we could take him home from the hospital, actually having one day of maternity leave(I finished work on the Friday afternoon and Richie was born by Saturday morning), and I wasn't pregnant for my baby shower( yes, I still had my shower-was a good excuse for a catchup with the girls)
This time around, I'm hoping for a pregnancy that is at least 36 weeks gestation, which should give me a couple of weeks of maternity leave, I can have a baby shower with a huge belly, and a baby that is healthy and ready to come home with mummy, daddy, and big brother.
My name is Briana and I am a wife to Terry, a mother to ,my gorgeous 2 year old son Richie with another bub on the way.
